High-frequency Grammatical Errors in Academic Writings by Chinese Students in International School
Thisresearchinvestigatesfourcategoriesofhigh-frequencygrammaticalerrorsfrom45students’academicwritingsviascriptanalysis.Agroupof36studentsrespondedtoaquestionnairefocusingontheirbeliefsregardingthesegrammaticalconstructions.TheparticipantsareenrolledinaninternationalschoolinSuzhouCity.Atotalof646sentenceswereanalyzed,amongwhich295(45.7%)areinaccurate.Ofthe364errorsfound,mostofthem(64.0%)fallintothecategoryofSubject-verbagreement,followedbysubordinateclauses(28.6%);errorsinEnglishexistentialconstructionandthepassivevoiceareafew.Also,theusagerateofsubordinateclauseis42.7%,ofwhichalargeproportionwasincorrect.
